In 1958, Bill first experienced the Hawaiian Islands before it became a state. In 1977, nineteen years later, he returned to the islands for the second time. The following year, he started working for United Airlines, who was the major mainland/Hawaiian air carrier, and has been traveling to the islands ever since. He has ohana, friends and family on all the major islands.

Bill was born in Pennsylvania and lived in Japan, Italy, Germany, and the Netherlands. He holds degrees from California Institute of the Arts, Pepperdine University, and Chapman University. Professor Hutchinson taught Business Management, Information Technology, Student Success Strategies and Critical Thinking courses. His articles and photographs have appeared on social media, in newspapers, magazines, annual reports, and other publications.
